It got downright emotional at Reanimated headquarters today when HA and Stuart discussed the last episode of The Ones Who Live. It was gratifying to see the core of The Walking Dead writing/director team and some of the stand-out actors from the franchise deliver six pretty great episodes of television in what feels like a fond farewell from the show we've enjoyed for 13-odd years.

H.A. and Stuart take a look at the fifth and penultimate episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. With one episode left in the limited series, we're left with a lot of questions about how the show will wrap all of this up.

Reanimated woke up bright and early on this Daylight Saving Sunday to watch Rick and Michonne figure out their  course at the CRM. Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln continue to deliver phenomenal performances and the supporting cast are no slouches either. 

We take a look at the spin-off's second episode with a view of Michonne's journey to find Rick, and we have a revelatory moment when we realize that Rick doesn't even know about RJ. 

It was a rare (perhaps the second time ever?) in-person recording for Reanimated as H.A. Conrad happened to find herself in the San Francisco Bay Area on the day that the latest TWD spin-off was premiering. Listen on for our impressions as Rick and Michonne get back together!

Reality television meets zombies in this episode of Reanimated when our fair hosts get together to discuss the South Korean reality program from summer 2023 called Zombieverse. It's a weird premise but it works surprisingly well, while held together by the interactions of a charming cast and more of the top notch Korean zombie extras and make-up that we've come to know so well from shows like All of Us Are Dead and Kingdom. 

Herd is a novel approach to a zombie film, and that's not something you can say too often in the genre. Definitely watch the film before listening to this episode as there are some good plot mechanics that it would be a shame to spoil.

Reanimated heads to the Balkans during the '90s for some vampire action with David Morrisey looking like if the Governor had gone through an emo phase.

Reanimated digs one more up from the catacombs with The Signal from 2007 - a film with three writers/directors each taking an act and leading the audience through some pretty crazy times in the city of Terminus. Come and check it out with us!

This week, the gang holed up in the Hollywood Hills and ate chicken wings with Cugine in "As We Know It."

After mainlining the anime, Reanimated returned to Akira Tendo's existential quarter-life crisis layered in with some zombie apocalypse and friendship drama with the live-action film that dropped on Netflix last summer. It hews quite closely to the anime with only some, though significant, deviations.

We cross Zom 100 off our bucket list but only for a short while before we then go watch the movie coming up next week!

In this episode our hosts talked up the upcoming zomedy "As We Know It", a planned Aussie film to star Daisy Ridley and our general disappointment with the run of Zom 100 that we talked about this week. Come have a gander!

Reanimated headed to Japan in this episode to take in the sights and sounds of the first three episodes of the anime version of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. 

We put the first season of Daryl Dixon to bed and tried to come to terms with the name of next season's "The Book of Carol"? Let's see how it all shakes out.

We continue to follow Daryl's European vacation as he treks through France in the third episode of the Norman Reedus spin-off. 

The second episode of Daryl Dixon offered up one of the best zombocalypse sequences in years with some chaos on the Paris Metro. What a treat! Come hang with Stuart and H.A. Conrad as they chat about "Allouette" on Reanimated. 

Reanimated disembarked on a beach near Marseille to enjoy the first episode of Daryl Dixon this week. It's fun to see him out of context and interacting with an all new cast on location in France. This episode had it all - nun combat, audio diaries and drinking water from questionable sources. Can't wait for more!

We finished up the first season of Dead City this week on the podcast and while we look forward to the second season, the first felt like we were rehashing some old conversations for a lot of it.

Despite some pretty laughable elements, these two episodes throw Reanimated some good plot curves that keep us engaged with Dead City's middle episodes.

In this episode of the TWD spin-off, Reanimated had some beef with seemingly gormless New Yorkers who are so easily persuaded to go on a suicide mission for the sake of a kid they have never met. We also had a round up of some promising projects  - so have a listen!

Dead City is feeling a little confusing as it tries to raise the specter of Negan's past while it also maintains all the character redemption arc of the past several seasons of the show. It's still more than worth the price of admission, however. Come check it out with us! 

It was finally time to head across the Hudson this week on the podcast, as we got to watch the first episode of the latest Walking Dead spinoff - Dead City. There's a lot here to unpack -- exposition, time jumps, the regression of emotional baggage and more!

We wrapped up the first season of Silo with a lot of praise and reverence for the cast and some questions about some of the changes to the story from the original. Either way, sign us up! Great first season. Next week, back to our beloved zombies. 

More Silo this week and we ramp up to the dramatic conclusion of the first season. Watching Jules desperately trying to outmaneuver the hidden leaders of the Silo continues to be good times! Come check it out with us.

For our Father's Day episode, Reanimated honors affable dad Paul Billings as "The Janitor's Boy" and "The Relic" really serve to drive home that if there's any kind of celebratory festival in the Silo, it's probably to cover up some nefarious business. Also, Common, dude. What a series of performances from this guy, holy crap. 

Officials are dropping like flies in the Silo. Will Jules' questions unburied dangerous truths? Or just get everyone killed!? I don't know! Also this "!?" is called an interrobang. Just think that's cool.

There might not be any zombies in this bunker, but there's plenty of existential dread and dystopia, so Reanimated can get down with that. Come watch Silo with us!

We bid adieu to the First Street house for now as the first season of Mayfair Witches comes to a close. 

More witchy business this week on the show - always up for a little Chris Coy villain action!

In this episode we took a stroll down to the forest for a hearty session of night wailing. 

The podcast takes a witchy turn this week as Reanimated looks into its cauldron at The Mayfair Witches on AMC. We try to remember everything we know about the books that we loved so much.

Reanimated went to the movies for this episode and took in the Robert Kirkman-penned Renfield! What a hoot! Between the physical performances from Nicholas Hoult and Awkwafina, the pure comedic genius of Ben Schwartz and sheer presence of Shohreh Aghdashloo and Nicolas Cage, there was something for everyone. Also, there were gouts of blood. 

The French film The Trip was an actual trip in this episode of Reanimated. We had so many questions but ultimately none of them mattered as much as this film being able to keep us entertained, which it did! against all odds. 

Class warfare, environmentalism, corporate greed and parenting were all on the docket this week on the podcast with the Canadian film Brain Freeze. Come with us as we navigate the back nine in the dead of winter. 

H.A. Conrad emerged from her covid cocoon to record this episode of the podcast wherein we took a look at the cult film Re-Animator (no relation). It's pretty fun, except for the part that Conrad had to fast forward. 

Hey reanimators - some of us are chugging Heineken in front of a Vermeer painting while asking people to alsjeblieft, so it's time for a trip down memory lane on the pod! We offer you a recording from ancient times, May 25, 2013, in which two fresh-faced podcasters discussed Max Brooks' World War Z and the upcoming Brad Pitt film. Simpler times. 

That's all she wrote for the first season of The Last of Us season 1. Reanimated breaks down the final two episodes in this podcast, with discussion on Joel's 'I've done all the sidequests' endgame prowess and how that translates into television and then a rousing discussion on the morality of how those last 15 minutes of the finale unfold. 

Reanimated finally gets caught up on our backlog with Kin and Left Behind this week, showing off two very different reunions and a fun time at the mall.

We're a few weeks late and Stuart's mic is borked but we're back for more The Last of Us. We really reveled in talking through episodes 4 and 5 after a couple of viewings.

This one has blown up big time. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett put on a showcase of terrific acting skills as the show veers away from the game's plot. 
 

We're back this episode for more reveling in The Last of Us. Not only did this episode have a stellar cold open set in Jakarta, it brought us face to face with the clickers with great effect. We also said goodbye to one of our core cast with a very tender (you might even say it was a tendril) moment. 

We brought in Kyle this week to help us process the wonder that is The Last of Us. The show seems to be a powerhouse based on its first episode. Have a listen and watch it with us!

This one has been on our list since the earliest days of Reanimated and it was great to visit Havana, albeit in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. This film puts a wacky cast together with a lot of jokes, political satire about Cuba and zombies and honestly lands in some new territory, so that made it a lot of fun to watch. There was also a bunch of new trailers that dropped last week so we dug into Renfield, Blood, Evil Dead: Rise and some other tidbits. 

We sank our teeth into the final episode of the season in this episode. Sure we have our little gripes here and there but overall, this show really works on a lot of levels. Looking forward to a second season!

More vampires and their draaama this week as Louis' and Lestat's romance turns into something unsavory and Claudia scratches out her own personality somewhere in the middle. The show continues to do a great job, both in Dubai and New Orleans. 

We rise up out of our coffins for two more episodes of Interview with the Vampire this week. The differences between the original novel and this show are myriad but there's no denying the strength of this show, this cast and the updates that they've woven in. Have a listen with us!

Turns out our hosts were both big Anne Rice fans in their tenderer youths, no surprise there, so it's with no small amount of nostalgia that Reanimated is taking a look at the AMC series Interview with a Vampire. So far so good! The show clearly updates the original 1976 novel in some great ways. 

This one had us feeling some emotions. Through all the ups and downs, we'd stuck with this show for 12 years, and it had stayed around and ended on a fairly high note. We'll see how the walking dead universe maintains next year, but there's plenty of meat left on the zombie genre for now. 

We doubled up on seconds of Thanksgiving dinner and TWD episodes this week with the season marching like a herd of walkers toward its inevitable conclusion while we hapless audience members are carried along. Lots of fun in these two episodes, as well as some questions about Mercer's planning abilities and critiques of the lengthy closeups of Daryl's facial scar. Join us!

Here's a well put together episode with some great moments between characters who really needed to have a little dialog together, all placed against some fresh backdrops of scenarios we haven't seen in this show yet. Check it out!

This week on podcast we celebrate the news of the release date for The Last of Us on Jan. 15. Hurray! We also talk about What's Been Lost, directed by Aisha Tyler, a solid episode. Any episode with Melissa McBride and Josh Hamilton bouncing off each other is a good one.  Check it out with us!

Variant finally reintroduces the climby, doorknob-friendly, rock-wielding zombies that the show featured in season one, back before they were having discussions about continuity or "what can our zombies even do?" So to close that loop, they're bringing them back. OK, we can get behind that. Our commonwealth friends are in hot water and our B-plot wagoneers take a trip to renaissance town. It's a fun episode featuring some great lines of dialog and emotionally charged moments - also zombie killing. Basically it's peak Walking Dead. 

Happy Founder's Day! Let's all celebrate Governor Milton and Sebastian and their glorious leadership of the Commonwealth. You'd think with a name like Common Wealth, they might be a little less cringey with their monocle-wearing elitism, but hey at least they have gladiatorial combat.

It's starting to sink in that these are the final eight episodes of The Walking Dead prime show. This installment brings Hornsby some fresh, terrible wounds, which is nice. Josh Hamilton continues to delight and surprise us with his turn as a fiendish all around bad guy. We also talk about how vampires and witches seem to be having a bit of a moment and that's cool.

Reanimated goes hunting for some uber vamps with Day Shift on Netflix. This was a fun movie, with great action and world building, but left us wishing there was more character development for some of the supporting cast. Would watch more Dave Franco and Jamie Foxx buddy cop movies. 

We close out Tales of the Walking Dead with two more genre-bending episodes this week on the show - Davon and La Doña which take us into some Tales from the Crypt territory. Ms. Conrad spills the beans about the PPP easter egg prime show crossover and the amount of story hooks for the main show or another anthology really just keeps piling up. Have a listen!

Samantha Morton delivers once again as Alpha in "Dee" on Tales, but a few things don't add up in "Amy/Dr Everett" - Reanimated has questions.

After being so crestfallen over Fear the Walking Dead (we don't like quitting things) and not loving The World Beyond, it's been a huge rush to start getting into Tales of the Walking Dead! Also props to COVID-Conrad for pushing through for the episode. 
 
 

We check out Malnazidos a.k.a. Valley of the Dead this week on the podcast for some Spanish Civil War zombies. This is a fun movie - lots of jokes, lots of zombies, what more can you ask for? Perhaps a scruffy-looking nerfherder to lead the ensemble named Jan (pronounced Han)? This movie has that too! 

I know! I know! I said we'd have a fresh episode this week. Well COVID done made a liar outta me. HOWEVER, I can't lie when I say that it's been fun to trot these ole samples out of storage. This week it's Day of the Dead from 1985, so salute the Bub in your life, crack open a cold one with the helo crew and pull up a chair to the pig guts buffet.

We sat down and hammered out the rest of the season of Resident Evil on the show this week. Still mystified by the low reviews, absolutely astounded by the quality of the performance logged by Lance Reddick. Hot damn!
However, it's got its problems -- at least one snoozer episode and the resolution of the 2022 storyline leaves too much untold. However, it's a fun show. Check it out.

It was back to New Racoon City High School this week to watch Billie's fairly swift descent into crazy, while future Jade barely stays ahead of Umbrella by jumping from a series of frying pans into a series of fires. Resident Evil continues to be wholly entertaining - come hear our impressions of episodes The Devil You Know and The Light. We also break down some of the zombie news out of San Diego Comic Con 2022!

Hey gang, we’re taking a look at the latest entry in the Resident Evil media landscape this week on the podcast. And despite the landslide of bad reviews out there, we’re digging it, you guys. Come check it out with us!

Day of the Dead aired last fall on SyFy and then seemingly vanished. The homage to Romero feels very baked in and was a decent watch, though it struggles to rise to the level of a Black Summer.

This week, Reanimated chalks up another movie that adds to the margin of error in the zombie genre. We wish Unhuman was better, but sadly, it was worse.

The second Wyrmwood movie serves up more zombie road warriors on the show this week. Plus we dish about some exciting new trailers and announcements!

We went full Aussie on the podcast with a look at Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, a high-octane, zombocalyptic vision that came about through some crowdfunding and the same sort of skill and passion that brought us The Battery in years past.

A slight detour into the MCU leaves some Reanimators woefully lost in the lore of the MultiMarvelVerse, making one host consider sticking to the rivers and the streams that you’re used to. However, a good time was had by all!

In this episode, Reanimated heads to Uruguay for some Virus 32 which serves up some rage zombie-action

We closed out the second third of TWD’s final season with some high dramatic stakes, one or two groan-inducing moments of cliche but overall just left impressed by the caliber of the talent on this cast. Josh Hamilton’s Lance Hornsby is horrible and it will be fun to see where this goes.

Things are getting complicated with the Commonwealth. Acts are being committed that will prove difficult to undo, lines are being drawn and Negan is apparently going to be a dad. Huh? Also, Michael Biehn is there! and Jason Butler Harner does a fantastic turn as Toby Carlson.

We're continuing to churn through the the Walking Dead prime's final season, this time starting off with a Cudlitz directed "Rogue Elements." We still have questions about the Commonwealth but these episodes are gripping and entertaining.

A slight switch of gears this week as we leave Fear the Walking Dead Behind and head back to Virgeorgia for a dose of the prime show. It’s night and day in terms of quality of storytelling.

In a recap hail mary, we covered the remaining four episodes of Fear the Walking Dead season 7A this week on the podcast. The show feels like it's in a nearly unrecoverable flat spin, as plots and characters increasingly feel cartoonish, the stakes feel ever smaller despite outlandish plot devices that are presumably to create the opposite effect.

With Cindy Hawkins, we got to go back inside the hatch from Lost with a musical montage portraying how well June and Sr are getting along, but Teddy's ghosts come back to haunt them. Breathe with Me wraps up the Emile storyline once again and finally addresses the "Where's Wendell?" issue that the writers didn't really worry about for 16 episodes. Kyle's back to help us unpack all of the teen angst and zombie hamsters in the pilot of the latest South Korean zombie project on Netflix. Between commentary on bullying, classism, whiny teens and preoccupied adults, there's a ton here, oh plus ZOMBIES! So settle down with a bucket of Cheong-san Chicken as we go back to school.

This one brought back a lot of Playstation-induced terror as a more faithful reincarnation of the video game series in film form. With that cast and darling little Lisa Trevor, we were totally on board. Very itchy tasty.

We take a trip back to the mid-80s in this episode to review Night of the Creeps. How does it hold up? Come on, let's talk about it.

World Beyond left Reanimated with a couple of treats but it often fell short on delivering what could have been. Several of our dead pool predictions failed to come true, as the show also seemed to be less bloodthirsty than others in the universe. Listen along for our impressions as we put this series to bed.

It’s 2022! and Reanimated is back to continue to gnaw on the bones of the Walking Dead World Beyond second season. Between Jadis’ flawed omniscience, Huck’s less-than-believable work as a double agent and Brody and Lyla’s sudden-but-inevitable betrayals there’s a lot left to be desired here.
